Her inspirational career encompasses being a women’s rights leader, as well as the Head of the Centre of Excellence for Gender Studies at Quaid-i-Azam University. She has a Ph.D degree in Sociology from the University of Sussex, UK. She is a cutting-edge academic who has played a lead role in establishing Gender Studies as an academic discipline in Pakistan. She successfully lobbied to introduce Gender Studies in the Civil Service Examination and has developed a course in Gender Studies for the Federal Public Service Commission. She is fully committed to strengthen and engender state institutions. Her research work is widely referred to in the country as well as abroad. Dr. Bari is trained as a master trainer with specialized international institutes and centers in gender sensitization and gender mainstreaming, prevention of gender-based violence, political education, disaster mitigation and management. She has extensive experience and knowledge due to the short-term assignments that she had taken with multilateral and bilateral development agencies. Her consulting career includes in-depth work in the areas of gender and development, gender and governance, gender issues in humanitarian sector, combating gender-based violence, gender mainstreaming, gender in public policies especially education, health and women’s economic empowerment.
