Biography of Noah Gordon

Noah Gordon, an American writer, has explored various themes in his novels, including the history of medicine and medical ethics. However, in recent years, he has shifted his focus towards topics such as inquisition and the history of Jewish culture.

Gordon was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, into a working-class family. In 1944, he was drafted into the American army, although he did not have the opportunity to serve in combat. Nevertheless, he received war veteran benefits, including the right to a government subsidy for university education. Despite his parents' desire for him to become a doctor with a guaranteed income, Noah, after becoming more familiar with the field of medicine, chose journalism instead. For several decades, he worked as an editor for various medical and biology magazines. His literary career became more of a hobby, and all of his novels, both historical and contemporary, revolve exclusively around the lives of doctors. With his professional knowledge and understanding of the inner workings of medicine, the writer was able to tell the stories of his characters convincingly, accurately, and most importantly, engagingly.

International recognition came to him after the release of his book, "The Physician," the first novel in the Cole Family Saga. He became a laureate of literary awards in many European countries, including Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United States. In 1993, his novel "Shaman" received the James Fenimore Cooper Prize for Best Historical Fiction. Noah Gordon also wrote several reviews for science fiction works, which he penned in 1953 and published in the "Avon Science Fiction and Fantasy Reader" magazine.

Currently, Noah Gordon resides with his wife Lorraine in Brooklyn, Massachusetts.
